How much do custom boxes cost?

Custom printed boxes usually cost from well under $1 to over $10 per box. The box type, size and quantity matter most. This table shows the calculator’s estimated range for a typical size of each box type with standard printing and no extra finishes.

Why the price per box falls as quantity grows

Every custom box run has fixed setup work: cutting dies, printing plates or digital setup, press make-ready and proofing. On a short run those costs are shared by few boxes; on a long run they are spread thin. Material and printing per box also get cheaper in bulk. For example, a full-color 10 × 8 × 4 in mailer box is estimated at $2.20–$5.80 per box for 100 boxes, $1.05–$2.20 for 1,000 and $0.60–$0.95 for 10,000.

Ordering more lowers the price per box but raises the total, so order the quantity you can use or store. The quantity table in the calculator shows both for your exact box.

What affects the price of custom boxes

  • Box type. Folding cartons are the most economical, corrugated mailers and shipping boxes sit in the middle, and rigid boxes cost the most because they are wrapped by hand or semi-automatically.
  • Size. Bigger boxes use more board and print area. Part of the cost (setup, handling) does not grow with size, so price rises more slowly than area.
  • Quantity. The single biggest lever: setup costs are divided across the run.
  • Printing. Unprinted and 1–2 color prints cost less than full color. Printing inside as well as outside typically adds 30–50%.
  • Board. Double-wall corrugated typically adds 35–50% over single wall; premium or specialty paperboard adds cost per box.
  • Finishes and inserts. Lamination, spot UV, foil, embossing, windows and inserts each add a per-box cost.
  • Shipping and timing. Freight, duties and rush production are quoted separately.

Premium or specialty paperboard$0.10–$0.40
Magnetic closure (rigid boxes)$0.04–$2.00, lower at higher quantities

How to lower your packaging cost

  • Right-size the box. A box that fits the product uses less board and can lower shipping charges. Use the Box Size Calculator and the Dimensional Weight Calculator.
  • Order at a price break. Compare 500, 1,000 and 2,500 boxes in the quantity table before deciding.
  • Choose finishes that matter. One well-placed foil or spot UV detail can look premium for less than full coverage.
  • Standardize sizes. Using one box size for several products combines quantities into a cheaper run.
  • Plan ahead. Standard lead times avoid rush fees.

How the price range is calculated

For each box type, the calculator holds a low and a high price per box at 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 boxes for a reference size and print. Between those quantities it interpolates on a logarithmic scale. The range is then adjusted for your size (a share of the price scales with the box’s surface area), your printing and board, and the per-box cost of each finish or insert you choose. The typical price is the geometric middle of the range.

The model was checked against 117 published manufacturer price points for specific sizes and quantities; 115 of them fall inside the calculator’s range (allowing 10% either side). The few outside it come from premium short-run suppliers.

Custom box pricing FAQ

How much do custom boxes cost per unit?

Most custom printed boxes cost between about $0.20 and $15 per box. Folding cartons sit at the low end, corrugated mailers and shipping boxes in the middle, and rigid boxes at the top. Quantity, size, printing and finishes move the price within those ranges.

Is this price calculator a quote?

No. It shows a typical market range based on published industry pricing so you can plan a budget. BoxNovo confirms your exact price after reviewing your size, artwork and options.

How accurate is the price range?

The model was checked against published manufacturer price points and most fall inside its range. Unusual structures, very small or very large boxes, special materials and complex artwork can fall outside it.

Why are small orders more expensive per box?

Setup work such as dies, plates and press make-ready costs about the same for 100 boxes as for 10,000. On a small run that cost is shared by fewer boxes.

What is the minimum order for custom boxes?

The calculator estimates from 100 boxes. Minimums vary by box type and printing method, so ask us about the quantity you need.

Are mailer boxes cheaper than rigid boxes?

Yes, usually by a wide margin. Rigid boxes use thick chipboard wrapped in printed paper, which takes more material and labor than a die-cut corrugated mailer.

How much does printing inside the box add?

Printing inside as well as outside typically adds 30–50% to the price of a printed box.

How much do foil stamping and embossing cost?

Published per-box costs range from about $0.10 to $1.50 for foil stamping and $0.05 to $1.20 for embossing or debossing, depending on size, coverage and quantity.

Does the price include shipping?

No. Shipping, taxes and import duties depend on your location and order, and are quoted separately.

How can I reduce the cost of custom packaging?

Right-size the box, order at a quantity price break, limit premium finishes to where they matter and use one box size for several products.

Do I need to enter my email to see prices?

No. The price range appears instantly, and nothing you enter is stored or sent.
